What:
For its second annual Christmas event, the Cathedral District is lighting up the district for Let There Be Light. This first-of-its-kind, free event is the Cathedral District’s gift to its beloved community after a long and challenging year.
When:
The Cathedral District is lit every evening through December 31
You’ll See:
The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, First United Methodist Church, Historic Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church and St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral will shine as part of a driving tour that includes more than 150 brightly lit trees. Other significant historic landmark buildings will be illuminated as well including Yates Building, Morocco Temple, Bedell Law Firm, and Elena Flats.
You’ll Hear:
Opening “bells” at 6 p.m. with all five churches ringing simultaneously for a full five minutes. Visitors enjoy audio narration (with introduction by Courtney Lewis) as well as music by the Jacksonville Symphony while you savor this first-of-its-kind experience.
Why:
Like many non-profits, the Cathedral District was in the middle of event planning when the pandemic up-ended public life. With COVID 19 making it impossible to repeat the district’s wildly successful holiday event of last year with the same up-close and personal church tours, so the Cathedral District’s board of directors came up with the idea of hosting a safe, family-friendly, drive-through event to showcase its five historic churches Stay in your car and be safe!
