Cathedral District-Jax, Inc. will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to noon with an extraordinary community event inviting Jacksonville to see Cathedral Hill, the city, and the world from a new perspective.
“Viewing the World from Cathedral Hill: A Morning of Music, Science & New Perspectives” will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Cathedral Hill and will showcase the Cathedral District’s remarkable connection to history, science, culture and the future of Jacksonville.
The centerpiece of the morning will be the Terra Project, a breathtaking 16-foot globe created by artist and globe maker Eric J. Morris of Orbis World Globes. On display throughout October at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, Terra is inspired by the iconic NASA “Blue Marble” photograph and uses satellite imagery to offer viewers an immersive view of Earth as a single, interconnected place. The installation provides a rare opportunity to experience what astronauts describe as the “overview effect,” a profound shift in perspective that can occur when viewing Earth from space.
“As we celebrate ten years of Cathedral District-Jax, Terra gives us a beautiful way to reflect on our work, our community and our shared responsibility to steward the places we have been entrusted with,” said Ginny Myrick, President and CEO of Cathedral District-Jax.
The morning will feature a unique blend of science, music, exploration and community, including:
- Expert presentation on Earth, space and atmospheric science by Edmund Whisler, Director of Planetarium and Outreach at the Museum of Science & History (MOSH)
- The MOSH traveling planetarium, bringing the wonder of the night sky to Cathedral Hill
- Live handpan music, creating an immersive and contemplative atmosphere
- An opportunity to experience the 16-foot Terra globe and explore the Earth from a completely new perspective
- A champagne reception celebrating Cathedral District-Jax’s 10 years of community-building, advocacy, and redevelopment
The event also serves as a special fundraising event for Cathedral District-Jax, supporting the organization’s continued work to revive and shepherd the redevelopment of historic Cathedral Hill through strategic redevelopment partnerships that strengthen the residential and commercial character of the neighborhood.

Since its founding in 2016, Cathedral District-Jax has worked to help transform Cathedral Hill into Jacksonville’s “newest-oldest neighborhood,” bringing together residents, property owners, developers, businesses, institutions and community partners to unlock the potential of historic properties and underutilized spaces. Over the past decade, that work has helped facilitate 1,029 residential units in financing, construction or completion, representing approximately $123 million in capital investment in and around the district.
Located in the heart of downtown Jacksonville, Cathedral Hill is a 36-block, 118-acre historic neighborhood centered around St. John’s Cathedral.
