Cathedral District–Jax, Inc. is pleased to announce the successful completion of the 2025 Christmas Walking Tour, held on Saturday, December 6. This year’s event once again drew an enthusiastic crowd eager to explore the beauty, history, and stained-glass artistry that define Jacksonville’s Cathedral Hill.
Led by local expert Mike Field of Modern Cities and The Jaxson, the tour guided guests through the district’s treasured five churches (Historic Mt. Zion AME, First Presbyterian Church, First UMC Jacksonville, the Basilica of Immaculate Conception, and St. John’s Cathedral) and two historic buildings usually not open to the public (Morocco Temple and the Carnegie Library now home to Bedell Law Firm), illuminating the stories told through the windows that shape Cathedral Hill’s spiritual and cultural landscape, and concluded with a festive Christmas reception with hot beverages and cookies in the courtyard of St. John’s Cathedral.
Cathedral District–Jax extends heartfelt thanks to the tour’s presenting Sponsor, Sasso, Guerrero & Henderlite, along with supporting Sponsors Baker Design+Build and Kasper Architects – all thriving businesses that proudly call Cathedral Hill their home. Their partnership and investment in the neighborhood continue to strengthen the district’s mission and its growing momentum. Syd Gervin, CDJ Chairman and Ginny Myrick, CEO, noted that “… We believe these annual events contribute to our placemaking focus revitalizing Cathedral Hill.”
This year’s event also highlighted the warm collaboration among Cathedral Hill’s faith communities. Rev. Sonny Stroud, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, reflected on the shared effort, saying, “It was our pleasure to be part of the event. Thank you and your team for the outstanding work you did to see this through.”
Dr. LeMorris Prier of Historic Mt. Zion AME added his appreciation, noting, “It was our pleasure to participate in this event and we only wished that our construction process was complete. We will continue to foster the goals of the district.” It was the restoration of their exquisite stained-glass windows that sparked the idea to the tour.
Cathedral District–Jax is grateful to all participating congregations, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and guests who helped make the 2025 Walking Tour a joyful celebration of community, heritage, and holiday spirit.
